BlueBike

Roles: User Experience Designer, Researcher, Project Manager

Timeline: 6 weeks

Tools: Balsamiq

Task :

Ideate and design mockup for the bluebike mobile app, which addresses the pain point and solves a real-world problem.

Hypothesis

Problem: Currently it is challenging for the user to pre-plan trip and navigate bikes during peak hours.

Solution: Fix the home screen and tell the user about the nearest available bikes, where they can also pre-plan trip based on peak hour surge.

Result: The improved user-centric design will result in an increased retention ratio.

Process & Solution:

Research & Analysis

The first step of the redesign consisted of creating a brand discovery worksheet, which answered questions related to pain points faced by the user who uses the app daily. After those answers, I worked on the design decisions which will simplify the process. The target audience for the brand consisted of individuals looking to save money while commuting during summer. For my competitive analysis to dissect and analyze the personality, positioning, and experiences of the similar product like limebikes and skipit.

Ideation & Wireframe

Based on the research and analysis, I created a wireframe that will be easier to navigate and understand pain points faced by Sarah McGill(Persona). The ease of use was the center of my thought process. Currently using the app is very cumbersome process it takes more than eight steps to reach the payment window.

Usable Testing Approach

Once my mockups were ready I wanted to understand the real-world scenario with the people who use the bluebike. I conducted my usable test with three users on call and Microsoft teams around 15mins - 20mins. Then I prepared a set of exit questionnaires, which I asked the users in the end.

Testing Script

Scenario-You are traveling to Boston and want to explore the city, renting a bike looks an affordable option. Use Bluebike to book a ride for tomorrow.”

KJ Analysis (1).jpg

Learning

Reviewing my KJ analysis and Usability testing, I understood that some important elements were missing from the new design. It wasn't easy to complete the task with the given resources and mockups. However, I went and tried to correct my design decision in the “final mockup.” If I had more time I would have improved my mockup quality and went again for user testing. Improved audiences size to fifteen since it would have given me more user-centric data and more informed design decisions.
